New game that prepares budding researchers for publication criticism

Drs. Teresa Chan, Jonathan Sherbino and Sandra Monteiro have produced a new serious game, ‘Dear Reviewer 2’,  aiming to help early-career researchers navigate common review questions and criticisms for studies submitted for publication.

The game can be played with two to eight players and includes three card difficulty levels.  The point of the game is that everyone has a chance to respond to reviewer comments and gain points by having the best response.  It’s a really fun, low-stakes environment where you can learn how to respond to criticism.

This tongue-in-cheek game builds on the lived experience of new and seasoned researchers and will provide many laughs.  It will also serve as a reminder of how hard research can be and how hard we can be on each other.

Dear Reviewer 2 is now available for purchase. All proceeds will go towards funding further research and innovation at McMaster University.

Exploring Talent in Medical Education & Healthcare Workshop

December 12, 2024
1:00-2:30pm
Zoom

How do we define “talent” in medicine? How can we do a better job of supporting the many talented individuals in our healthcare training programs?

This free online, interactive workshop will examine how talent is identified, supported and retained in sectors outside of medicine/healthcare (e.g. business, military, K-12 education, sports & art) and discuss how this can be applied to medical education training programs. Hosted by MERIT and Toronto Metropolitan University, with funding from the PSI Foundation.

All are welcome!

The Game Changers podcast, brought to you by McMaster Continuing Professional Development Office, is dedicated to exploring the stories of local, bold, and diverse game changers in academia!

This series serves as an educational and inspirational resource, bringing together, highlighting, and celebrating the experiences of these individuals through rich and meaningful stories.
