Health Professions Educator Award 2025
Annually, the Health Science Education MSc Program (HSED) and MERIT recognizes outstanding contributions to health professions education and education scholarship from the Faculty of Health Sciences through the Health Professions Educator Award.
The award is designed to encourage and reward the continued excellence of health professions education and health professions education scholarship within McMaster University. Nominees will be senior faculty and leaders in their respective professional schools that have made substantial contributions to education in the Faculty of Health Sciences including teaching, mentorship, educational scholarship, or research, throughout their careers. Presented by HSED and MERIT, at the annual Norman Education Research Day.

John C. Sibley 2025 Award for Excellence in Education for Part Time Faculty
The John C. Sibley award is presented annually to a
part-time faculty member in the Faculty of Health Sciences who has contributed in an outstanding manner to the education of health professionals (preferably in more than one sector). See enclosed list for previous winners. The award includes an honorarium in the amount of $2,500.00 (gross), paid via direct deposit, and a citation. The name of the winner is announced publicly through email and newsletters. A permanent plaque in the 2J area (HSC) serves as a record of the awardees.
The John C. Sibley Award is named in honour of Jack Sibley who became Associate Dean, Education in 1979 and was known for his interdisciplinary approach to community health both locally and internationally.
Nominations are now being requested for this prestigious award, which highlights the importance of part-time faculty in fulfilling the academic mission in more than one sector. The nominees will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Development and evaluation of innovative educational activities in the health sciences
- Support of interprofessional education
- Sustained commitment to the academic mission
- Impact on teaching and learning in FHS programs and initiatives.
If you know of an eligible part-time faculty member, we would strongly encourage you to submit a nomination. The nomination package should include an updated CV; a detailed letter (no more than 3 pages) by the nominator which addresses each of the above criteria, highlighting examples in each area; two supporting letters commenting on the special contributions of the nominee in line with the criteria.

The Clinician Educators Program (CEP) trains physicians who apply the theories and principles of medical education to education practice, including scholarly teaching and learning, curriculum design and implementation, learner assessment, program evaluation, education scholarship and education leadership.
CEP is an Area of Focused Competency Program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and open to physician teachers and senior trainees affiliated with either the Royal College or the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
McMaster University is home to the first program of its kind in Canada which launched in 2015. Their mission is to grow a community of clinician educators who innovate and lead.
